Shut Down

Shut Down adds a new submenu to the top of the context menu shown when you right-click the desktop. Up to 6 items appear on this menu:
  • Shut Down: shuts down Windows, and (if your PC supports it) powers off the system

  • Restart: restarts the computer

  • Lock: locks the computer by displaying the standard Windows log-on screen (in Windows 2000 and later)

  • Log Off: logs the current user out of Windows, and displays the standard Windows log-on screen

  • Sleep/Stand By: switches the computer to low-power suspend mode (if your PC supports this)

  • Hibernate: puts the computer into hibernation mode (if your PC supports this, and hibernation is enabled)
Selecting one of these items carries out the chosen action immediately without displaying the Windows Shut Down dialog. The actions are not 'forced', so any running applications will prompt you to save unsaved documents if necessary.

ShellToys also provides a separate small shutdown utility. For even faster access to shut-down options, you can create shortcuts to this utility on your desktop or Start menu that carry out particular shut-down actions.
