Folder Color

The Folder Color shell extension lets you apply a custom color to the standard folder icon for one or more selected folders, with a choice of 360 colors. Colors can be saved as presets using any name you choose, and these presets are shown on the Folder Color menu for quick selection.

Using color-coded folders makes it easy to identify particular folders at a glance, or to use particular color schemes to distinguish folders containing different types of files.

To customize folders' icons, right-click one or more folders (or the window background) and move to the Folder Color item on the context menu. A submenu shows the presets you've previously created along with several other options:

  • To apply an existing preset color, simply click its name.

  • To choose a color, click Choose Color and select the color to use. (You can save the new color as a preset by typing a name for it.)

  • To remove the color customization and use the standard Windows folder icon, choose Reset.

  • To rename or delete existing presets, choose Edit Presets.
