Drag/Drop Hard Link Creation

ShellToys includes useful tools to support hard links and junction points on NTFS-based systems. One of these is the ability to create a hard link or junction point by dragging-and-dropping with the right mouse-button.

Along with the usual options of Copy, Move and Create Shortcut, this shell extension adds an additional option to the menu shown when you 'drop': either Create Hard Link(s) Here (if one or more files were dropped) or Create Junction Point Here (if a folder was dropped).

Junction Points
ShellToys adds two extra useful features for anyone using junction points:

  • An icon overlay can be added to folders acting as junction points as a useful visual indication

  • The Shortcut Target shell extension becomes Junction Point Target when you right-click a junction point: choose this item to see the junction point's source folder and optionally delete the junction point.
