The Convert Images shell extension does just what you'd expect: select any combination of JPEG, GIF, PNG, bitmap and TIFF images and quickly convert them to one of the same formats. You can choose the color depth to use (with automatic dithering when colors are reduced), and transparency options.

When converting to a format that supports transparency, you can choose the Ask Me option. For each image, a dialog is displayed letting you click a color in the image to be set as transparent, and preview the result.
