Convert Audio Files
CD ripping: Extract one or more tracks from an audio CD to WMA, MP3, Ogg Vorbis or WAV files by right-clicking the audio CD icon or .cda track icons, or by choosing 'Copy music using CFi ShellToys' from the autoplay dialog after inserting an audio CD. (Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 users may need to install an ASPI interface to enable CD ripping.)
A single button-click can retrieve online album information, track titles and cover-art. (You can also paste cover-art into the dialog.) You can select two or more consecutive tracks, or the entire album, and click Join Tracks to have those tracks ripped as a single continuous file.
Audio conversion: Right-click one or more WMA/MP3/OGG/WAV files and choose Convert Audio Files. This tool can be used with either a single file, or a batch of files in any combination (for instance to convert a mixture of WAV, OGG and MP3 files to WMA format).
Whether ripping from CD or converting audio files, simply select the output format, and choose the combination of bit rate, sample rate and channels to use. (Your last-used settings are stored and reused.) Finally, the media files are converted and the dialog keeps you posted on progress. When ripping from CD, the disk can be ejected automatically on completion and the cover-art can be saved with the audio files.
Convert Audio Files never overwrites files, but adds a number to filenames where necessary, letting you convert a file several times using different settings and compare results. Better still, any ID tags in the original files (or CDDB information for converted CD tracks) can be preserved and included in the output MP3, Ogg Vorbis or WMA file.
