Batch Rename

A common file-management situation is the need to rename multiple files – perhaps to make simple changes such as making names lowercase or changing extensions, or to create a sequence of entirely new names. Batch Rename makes this easy: just select the files and/or folders you want to work with, right-click, and choose Batch Rename from the context menu.

Simple Rename
The first tab, shown in the screenshot to the left, does the simpler stuff. You can add prefixes or suffixes to the filenames, remove or insert characters, replace particular text in the names, change extensions, or convert names to upper, lower or title case.

For regularly-used combinations of settings, you can save them as named 'Profiles' for easy reuse.

Construct Sequence
The second tab allows you to create a new, alphanumeric sequence of filenames. Arrange the files into the order you want using the arrow-buttons, then choose a name, the type of sequence, and the starting point in the sequence. In the screenshot example, the files will be renamed to image01.gif, image02.gif, and so on up to image07.gif.

Batch Rename watches for possible "collisions" and always shows a prompt if renaming a file would cause another to be overwritten. You can also check the new names by clicking the Preview button before committing yourself to the changes.
