Convert Audio Files: ASPI Interface

ShellToys's Convert Audio Files tool allows extraction of tracks from audio CDs to Wave, WMA and MP3 files. To do this, it needs an ASPI interface (also known as an ASPI layer or ASPI manager). Support for ASPI was included with Windows 98 and ME, but not in Windows 2000 and XP. However, some software by Adaptec and other companies may have installed an ASPI interface on your system already.

If ShellToys displays the error message No CD-ROM drives found or no ASPI layer installed when you try to convert CD audio tracks, follow the two simple steps below to install an ASPI interface.

Installing an ASPI interface

  1. Download this freeware ASPI interface by Jukka Poikolainen Software.

  2. Extract the file WNASPI.DLL from the zip and place it in your ShellToys installation folder. (The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\CFi\ShellToys.)
