All Shell Tools

These are thumbnail descriptions of the extra shell tools included in ShellToys. For more details and screenshots, click the name of any utility below or in the list above.

Hotkeys: assign keyboard shortcuts to your most-used ShellToys shell extensions for quick access without right-clicking.

Explorer Hotkeys: you can also assign shortcut keys to Explorer functions for Invert Selection, View (Icons/List/Thumbnails, etc) and Arrange (Name/Size/Type).

Window Hotkeys: setup global hotkeys to minimize, maximize or restore windows from the keyboard, or toggle window transparency on and off.

Clipboard+: an extended clipboard utility that stores any text, graphics and files/folders copied to the clipboard, and allows stored items to be copied back to the clipboard.

AutoType: displays any number of user-defined text clips (along with the last 10 text items copied to the clipboard) on a popup menu accessible via a system-wide hotkey. Select a clip to insert its text straight into the foreground window, bypassing the clipboard.

Clock+: a powerful extension to the taskbar clock – display your own choice of date and/or time format using your own choice of font on up to three lines.

Clock+ Calendar: with Clock+ enabled, just double-click the clock to display the calendar Windows users have been waiting for.

Clock+ Reminders: add an appointment by simply double-clicking a date on the calendar and typing your text. ShellToys will display a reminder (and play a sound) at the appropriate date and time.

Clock+ Alarms: schedule up to 3 separate audible alarms to play at different times. Each alarm can be set to play just once, or daily at the same time.

Clock+ Stopwatch: a simple timer utility with pause/resume with a tiny window which stays on top of other open windows.

Custom Menus: frustrated by the number of unnecessary items that appear on your context menus? Use this tool to gather your unused items onto a separate submenu, out of the way, or even hide them entirely.

Desktop Icon Position Saver: adds an extra property sheet to the Display Properties applet in Control Panel that allows you to save and restore desktop-icon layouts for different screen resolutions. This tool can even apply the correct layout automatically whenever your screen resolution changes.

Dialogs+: customizes file Open/Save dialogs, allowing you to specify the dimensions and view-style of dialog when they appear and adding a Go To Folder menu for quick navigation between frequently-used folders.

Customize 'Send To' Menu: easily hide unwanted items that appear on the Send To menu without deleting them.

Customize 'New' Menu: hide items that appear on the New menu without deleting them, or add your own templates to the New menu quickly and easily.

Clear Temp Folder: empties your Temp folder each time Windows starts to remove unnecessary temporary files.

Image Editor: not a shell-related tool at all – by popular demand we've added an image editor that allows you to crop, rotate or resize an image, and apply filters and effects. You can access the image editor from the Start menu or from the Image Size and Browse Media shell extensions.

Drag/Drop Archive Extraction: adds extraction options to the context menu shown when you drag-and-drop a zip/cab/jar/rar archive using the right-mouse button.

Drag/Drop Hard Link Creation: on NTFS file systems, this tool adds options to create hard links or a junction point when you drag-and-drop files or a folder using the right mouse-button.

Drag/Drop Taskbar Buttons: on Windows Vista/XP systems, this tool allows you to rearrange the buttons on the taskbar by dragging and dropping them into new positions or hide buttons by dragging them onto the desktop.

Drag/Drop To New Folder: adds options to move to copy items to a new folder in the chosen location when you drag-and-drop files or folders using the right mouse-button.

Shut Down Utility: this is the tiny utility that manages the Shut Down context-menu items. You can create shortcuts to this utility on your desktop or Start menu as another way to choose shutdown options.

Eject Utility: this is the utility that manages the eject-CD feature in Convert Audio Files. You can create shortcuts to this utility on your desktop or Start menu to provide a quick way to open or close particular optical drives.
